What We’re All About

How it all started…

New System Bakery was opened in 1920, and was originally a franchised store. It was named “new system” because of the new style of baking with rotating ovens they were using. When the company wanted to sell out, they offered the Chillicothe location to their local bakery manager, Mr. Edward Newton, who ran the bakery well into the 1960’s, when his son, Harold Newton would take over the family business. Harold Newton ran the bakery with his wife and three daughters until (approximately) 2003, when his youngest daughter, Sarah, would take it over upon his retirement. She and her husband ran the bakery at the Main Street location until June of 2016. There was a gas explosion from the oven which would temporarily close the business.

In July of 2016, Joshua and Amy Hatfield purchased the recipes, name and existing equipment to re-open “New System Bakery”. The location was moved to western avenue and water street before reopening in March of 2017, where it remains today.
